Astor razor blades have been around since the 1950s and originally come from Violex , a Greek manufacturer of razor blades. In the 1970s Violex cooperated with the French BIC Group: which led to the creation of BIC-Violex SA In 1975, the first disposable razor was presented under the BIC brand; shortly thereafter, BIC acquired all shares of the joint venture.

Since then, both the well-known BIC Chrome Platinum Blades and the BIC Astor Blades manufactured at the Violex factory in Greece. Experts consider Astor blades to be a Greek counterpart to Chrome Platinum—technically identical, just with a different name.
